Opening Word
VP LaQuey: Service is our primary goal as Senate. Whether it be Student Life projects, presence in events, or even just club funding. I also aim towards professionalism. If we do this right, we gain training and experience in ways that will benefit us when we graduate. Lastly, communication with administration. It’s what we’re known for, besides Ice Cream. There will be an endeavor to increase the amount of proper delegation so that everyone has a job.
Reports:
Chairman Farley: Club funding. Budgets are due the 2nd of September. We will meet on the Saturday after the 2nd to interview the clubs, and form our budget.
Chairman Crawford: Ice Cream Friday, 4pm.
*Senator Reeve added to the roll*
Special Business:
Old Business:
New Business:
*Motion made to have the Speaker-Chair read any bills brought forward.*
*S.B. No. 01, Ice Cream Bill of Fall 2026, is brought to the floor.*
*PPT Hefley moves the previous question, the bill does pass.*
Announcements:
VP LaQuey: Volunteers are needed for out table at STOMP. Show up at 7:30 if you wish to help. Club funding interviews next week, Saturday Sept. 5 at 1:00 in the Steudler Lounge. We do need a lot of people for this. If you can be there, please be there. The Senate website is being revised. There is, and more will be added, important information on there for your benefit. The Senate Discord is being retired, all communication will be in email on the Outlook group. Senate Ice Cream tomorrow at 4. Committee assignments will be coming soon. If there is one committee you might prefer, let us know. Senator contact/list photos are also coming soon.
Senator Waldron: The navigation bar on the website got moved to the side, and for me its very clunky. Just wanted to share my opinion.
VP LaQuey: It seems that on different aspect ratios, the navigation bar is hidden or not. I’ll take that into account.
Senator Worley: Is there concern for conflict of interest with club funding, as I personally am the president of a few clubs.
VP LaQuey: We consider that, but it shouldn’t be an issue.
Senator Waldron: It’s perfectly fine, as we want clubs and floors to be represented within Senate, so we won’t discourage that.
*VP LaQuey reads the general Student Life announcements*
Dr. Conn: About the latex-free area, that is especially important for balloons, if they were ever to be used. If you have an event, do not use latex balloons.
Open Forum:
Student Liam Harms: For the air dome, who could I talk to if I wanted to ride a unicycle on the track.
Dr. Conn: You would want to talk to Brad Bowser.
VP LaQuey: This is an idea that PPT Hefley had for senator elections. New Senators would need signatures of ⅔ of their floor so that they can meet with those that they represent. This would be proposed as an amendment to the bylaws or constitution. Another thing I want you all to think of is Student Life projects. An example would be the gazebo out by the pond, which was funded and built by us. I want to bring those back, and we need to start with ideas. So if you could be thinking of that, feel free to voice that next week.
Chairman Farley: I’ve got one to think about: go-kart storage building. MTDL doesn’t like having to store them there, and people at Auto don’t like non-auto karts being stored there, so that could be something to consider.
Senator Waldron: I noticed on the website that the pending bills section is gone, is that a mistake?
VP LaQuey: I will get that fixed.
Chairman Crawford: Could you explain the process of becoming a senator?
VP LaQuey: The process would be attending a meeting, receiving senator training, and being sworn in the next week. If we do move with collecting the signatures of ⅔ of their floor, that would be handled by them and an election managed by their RA.
Crowd-Member: InterSociety has been confused of whether we are a club or not, could you give some clarity?
VP LaQuey: According to the school, InterSoc is a club, but does not need to do club funding, as other bills will be brought up to fund them/their events.
Dr. Conn: InterSoc operates as a club so that we don’t give money to residents.
Session adjourned at 11:45.
