Minutes Approved at 11:07

Officer Reports:

VP Avent: All powers of PPT are hereby changed.

PPT Moyes: Senator Oden is resigning due to too much going on.

Committee Reports:

Chairman Crowder: We are finalizing the Haven Slocum remembrance shelf. Also looking into the town hall, and we might be changing the ice cream rotation. We also might be doing special stuff with bon appetite workers.

Chairman Drebot: Things are going well for elections. Polls close at 11:59 today, so if you or your floors haven’t voted, please do.

Chairman Shaughnessy: Club funding has been finalized and we have a bill for go carts as well.

Special Business:

Citizen Rosenberger: The Women’s Aviation Society is traveling to Nashville, TN for a conference and need $700 to cover that along with other events.

Senator Bright: Is this separate from club funding?

Senator Allen: There have been a lot of requests. I am not sure how much extra we can give. We can definitely give $500 but I am not sure about the extra.

Chairman Crowder: If you are needing extra support, we can write a bill for the extra. You can come back and talk it out.

Old Business:

New Business:

Chairman Shaughnessy: I motion to bring the Club Funding Act of Spring 2022 to the floor.

Senator Byrn: The cooking club has asked for an egregious amount of money and refuses to fund themselves, so it is likely just to make a point.

Chairman Gonzalez: Are we the ones making a point by giving them what they want?

Senator Byrne: This is less than a third of what they asked for.

Senator Berry: We think it is an unfair amount to request without trying to fundraise.

Chairman Gonzalez: I don’t know what half of these clubs do, but here we go.

Senator Berry: I know for blacksmithing they wanted a power hammer. But we didn’t give them a full amount because they didn’t have a specific power hammer they wanted to buy.

Chairman Drebot: Did the disk golf club request funds?

Senator Allen: As far as I know, they did not send in a request that I saw.

Chairman Shaughnessy: Men’s rugby put a lot of their own money into that. They also give an excellent breakdown.

Senator Byrne: Most members spend about $200 of their own money so we are more inclined to give them extra.

Senator Allen: So, going down the list. LMA was asking for $1200, and we brought that down to $850. They wanted to bring a poet in to speak and wanted to fund their travel expenses. All of their budget went to that, and they had done fundraising themselves. Mu Kappa asked for $1200, and we are giving $1050. They do a lot of food events and Chai parties. They also have a goat roast where attendees pay half, and we pay half. It is a big event. Pre-Health, some of that is overdraft. They are a new club as of last semester and didn’t pay close attention last year. The rest if for a raffle for charity. Ultimate frisbee, we gave $628 so they can go to competitions. They could cover most, but don’t know the exact location yet so they needed a buffer. They buy more frisbees with the rest. Pro-Life…

Senator Bright: A couple of the expenses have already happened. There was travel to Houston. We also have Junior Officers getting involved and we needed polos. We have one fundraiser, but we donate funds raised. There are two more fun nights that need money for food. We have 10-15 members.

Chairman Gonzalez: Is there a reason why Lunar is listed as getting zero dollars?

VP Avent: That is what it costs.

PPT Moyes: KZX is a residential society not a club. Why are they asking for funds?

Chairman Drebot: Same question about LAS.

VP Avent: That is an issue. Section E. it is ambiguous if it applies to societies because you can be involved without living there. Is this a new issue?

Senator Allen: To my knowledge, one or both have been funded through club funding.

Chairman Shaughnessy: They both have their own projects and needed auxiliary funds.

Chairman Drebot: These two societies are based on campus living and thus would be unconstitutional, so I am going to motion that they are removed.

Senator Berry: Just one final thing, don’t they both have the option to have a senator?

VP Avent: They do have the ability and one does have a senator.

Sergeant Rubingh: How much is left after this?

Chairman Shaughnessy: We will have more than $10,000.

VP Avent: The past few semesters the funding has been higher due to more clubs. Are there plans for this in the future?

Senator Allen: I would like to cut down on the excess rollover since the money does not help if it sits. We would like a buffer between semesters. We will put out more information in the future about club funding. We hope to update the website.

Chairman Shaughnessy: We still have other things to fund.

Senator Naranjo: I motion to bring this bill to a vote.

Senator Byrne: Motion to bring the Go Cart Kickstart Bill to the floor.

Senator Hofer: There is a deep disrespect among senators for improper language.

Senator Byrne: That was there to see how you would react.

Chairman Crowder: So, it will be $3000 in total?

Chairman Gonzalez: Is this considering the $600 just funded?

Senator Byrne: Auto Societies requested $3500, and we lowered that because they also asked for $1500 to build a go cart.

Senator Allen: The club funding is for general operations, so the separate bill is needed for the safety equipment for the race.

Sergeant Rubingh: How many clubs requested funds for this?

Senator Byrne: We had 3 requests, and 3 would receive funding if the bill passes.

Senator Willsea: Is there a reason the funds are for extra stuff but not carts?

Senator Byrne: most likely, these people have a cart and don’t need funds for that.

Senator Allen: We also wanted to give students an opportunity to participate. The engines are $150 so this is a good starting point.

Chairman Drebot: Motion to bring this to a vote.

Announcements:

Chairman Crowder: Floor snacks are in. Second, Friday ice cream is happening tomorrow.

Open forum:

PPT Moyes: I wanted to ask regarding that bill – how do we know where people go for funding.

Senator Byrne: Students pay $30 to register. Then Dr. French will send us the contact of those students. If they seem genuine, we will fund.

Chairman Crowder: What about teams that are already signed up?

Senator Bynre: Yes, they will get funding.

Senator McKurtis: Someone asked me about recycling bins. Can senate take care of this?

Chairman Shaughnessy: There are recycling dumpsters.

Chairman Gonzalez: We used to have recycling, but people put regular trash in there, so we stopped.

PPT Moyes: There are maybe between 3-7 recycling dumpsters. I believe we need to find someone who can talk to them. We need a schedule for where they are.

Senator Berry: I did not even know these exist. Where are they?

Senator Hofer: There is one behind Tyler.

Senator Allen: there is one behind Tyler, the alley by the nursing building, ELH, and between IT and UPD

Citizen Langley: It's for grounds crew. They move one at a time and then put it back.

Senator Bright: What is the designation between recycling and trash bins?

Senator Hofer: Trailers are trash, dumpsters are recycling.

Senator Allen: the dumpsters are also painted green.

Senator Berry: In your floor email, include the closest recycling bin.

Chairman Gonzalez: We are working on putting up a schedule for when buildings are open. My committee needs more people so if you are interested let us know.

Sergeant Rubingh: Is the senators page up to date?

Chairman Gonzalez: No, it is not up to date. Send a picture for the website if you want one. I motion to recess.
