Explanations and Reasoning
Section E.
Homecoming is an extremely vital event that LeTourneau hosts every Fall semester. This event serves as a chance for alumni, faculty, family members, and students to participate in fun activities that reflect the rich culture and campus life of LeTourneau University. One of the main events to be done during Homecoming weekend is the Intersociety Rope Pull. The event has taken place every year for decades and is viewed by hundreds of students, faculty, alumni, and family members who all look forward to/expect this event to take place. With the recent expansion of the pond, the current rope is no longer adequate to be stretched across the full length of the pond while allowing Society members a safe ground to pull on. A new rope will need to be ordered that will give enough length for Rope Pull to still take place for future years. Due to the long length and large size of the rope (200ft+ long), it will need to be specially ordered. These specially ordered ropes far exceed the cost of standardized ones, and by calculations from Intersociety it will be at or around $450 for a new one. This will be a one-time expense to ensure Rope Pull can continue for many decades into the future.
1. Expanding Impact Across Campus.
· This funding supports the university’s mission of enhancing student, faculty, alumni, and family member’s lives, not just benefiting a small group.
· Encouraging Campus Engagement not only with on campus students, but also with alumni, faculty, and family.
2. Reducing Financial Stress on Members
· Many Intersociety events including Block Party, as well as all other Society events are paid for by member dues.
· Students already pay tuition and potentially dorm fees or personal expenses. Asking members to fund all events through house dues can be a burden.
· School funding ensures that participation in Rope Pull does not create financial hardship for members or attendees.
3. Alignment with University Goals
· Position Intersociety as supporting the university’s mission: fostering leadership, community, and campus involvement. School funding aligns the Society’s goals with the broader objectives of LeTourneau University, making it a win-win.
