An Amendment

Relating to the amending of the Constitutional Bylaws

Be it enacted by the LeTourneau University Student Senate

Short Title

Section A. This amendment may be referred to as the “Executive Election Preferential Voting Act of Spring 2021 ”

Amendment

Section B. The following shall list the portions of the Constitutional Bylaws to be amended, and the amendments to the corresponding portions:

Article V - Executive Election

Section H - Preferential Voting

  1. Voters shall mark their ballots by rank, signifying their first, second, third, fourth, etc. choices for the positions.

  2. The election shall be determined by a ranked order voting process. If no single candidate wins with more than 50% of the votes in any round, then the candidate with the lowest number of votes is eliminated and another round of vote tallying commences until two candidates remain.

    1. When only two candidates remain, only a majority shall be required to win that round of elections.

  3. If the difference in points between the candidates for first and second place is less than or equal to 5% of the total points counted, a recount may be conducted according to the recount procedures in the constitutional bylaws




Effective Date

Section C.

This act shall become effective upon ratification.

  1. The current elections procedure is an abomination of two (or possibly more) voting systems using fractionals. Approving this bill will impose a system that actually works.
