Relating to the allocation of funds to students competing in the Hootenanny Go-Kart races.

Be it enacted by the LeTourneau University Student Senate

Short Title

Section A.

This act may be referred to as the "Go-Kart Kickstart Act of Spring 2022"

Appropriations

Section B.

A total of $2,500 will be allocated for the purpose of assisting students in funding Go Karts for the Hootenanny race in April.

A total of $500 will be allocated for the setup of the track on race day.

Teams will be funded $250 upon confirmation payment of registration fee for the race (receipts will be emailed to FAC).

Effective Date

Section C.

This act will become effective immediately after passage.

Stipulations

Section D.

Teams must be comprised of students and in the stock class to receive funding.
All funds not used in the manner in Section B bullet 1 will revert back to the Senate general fund.
All funds not used in the manner in Section B bullet 2 will revert back to the Auto Society club account.
A Student Senate sticker will be carefully applied to every Kart sponsored by this act as well as on sign throughout the race.

Explanations and Reasoning

Section E.

After a 20+ year hiatus, Go-Kart Races are back at LETU. From 1970-2000, teams of students built their own go-karts and raced them on-campus every Spring.  With the return of the races this spring many students are starting teams and building karts so that they can participate. Due to the long hiatus between now and the last race, most teams are having to start from scratch when building their karts. This bill is designed to help teams get started on their builds and bring back this LETU tradition. This bill will also give Student Senate representation at Hootenanny and gives us the opportunity to show the alumni and parents how we are funding the future of LETU.
