Relating to the purchasing of gift cards for the Senate gift card giveaway

Be it enacted by the LeTourneau University Student Senate

Short Title

Section A.

The "Giving Appreciation & Motivation By Legislative Engagement of Fall 2025" may be referred to as the “G.A.M.B.L.E Bill of Fall 2025.”

Appropriations

Section B.

1. A total of four hundred and fifty dollars ($450) shall be allocated from the Senate General Fund for the purchase of various gift cards.

2. All funds not used in this manner shall revert back to the Senate General Fund.

Effective Date

Section C.

This act shall become effective upon passage.

Stipulations

Section D.

Below are the rules for the gift card drawing

1. Each week at the end of session, we will “spin the wheel” and that person will be awarded a $25 gift card

2. The person who wins the gift card will not have a name in the wheel the week after

3. Paid people in Senate will not have a name in the wheel (chairs and VP)

4. For having attendance in session, you get your name in the wheel for that session

5. Getting one participation credit will get you a second name in the wheel, with a max of two total names in the wheel in a week

6. Participation credits will be used for the next chapel after the credit is earned

Explanations and Reasoning

Section E.

Senate has previously used bribery in the form of floor funds to get people to show up to session, but the outcome was a lot of people who had no intention of participating. If we bribe the people and reward them for participating in Senate outside of attendance, then Senate can do and will have more active participation.
