Officer Reports

Srgt. Edwards: I am disappointed that everyone is here, it says you need to wear dress shirts and polos in plural. I have to dress code everyone. That will mean that senators Chairman Willis and Senator Willis will need to be removed from the roll. Please keep things in order.

PPT LaQuey: First off, I would like to thank everyone for the work they put in for the event. I have heard a lot of feedback. It is April 1st. We like to have fun, but keep the joke bills for open forum, I want to make sure we wait to get to jokes. I was feeling a little festive, I brought this cheese hat.

VP Murphy: Do I need to get a cheese hat?

Committee Reports

Senator Anderson: AKA Banana Man of the United Empire. We have amended the Athletic Relations bill. We have met with the GoPro we will bring it up in old business.

Senator Avent: Student life, we have been planning some events, we will bring those up in open forum. We do have non-joke things to talk about.

Special Business

None

Old Business

Senator Moore: Motion to bring Athletic Relations Committee bill to the floor.

Senator Moyes: Is there any discussion on the bill or should we bring it to a vote

Senator Rubingh: We have not heard why we need a full committee.

Senator Moore: The reason we have created it is there has been an outreach of clubs saying they do not have access to a lot of equipment. They go unheard. The goal is to be a bridge between athletic funding and sports. Most of the clubs and sports have to practice elsewhere. It would no longer be a club responsibility.

Senator Eaton: As far as having athletes having talk to senate, are they not able to talk to their floor senators or is this addressing something else?

Senator Moore: You can do that, even bringing it to our senators there isn’t middle ground between the athletic department. There is not middle ground.

Senator Moyes: A quick question, what are its plans for future projects? What rolls are their different between the athletic department and funds?

Senator Moore: The biggest project is to fix the field. New sports have been spoken of being added, theoretical thing is we could make a football field, allowing to do track, football and ultimate Frisbee.

Chairman Willis: It sounds like you are focusing on the project and focusing on representing others. How does this relate to the student athlete advisory committee? How is this different than SAAC?

Secretary Craycraft: The difference between that is that SAAC is responsible to the ASC and less to LeTourneau, whereas this sounds specific to the school. SAAC represents athletes that are sponsored by the school and the NCAA.

PPT LaQuey: I agree with our secretary. Part of this is athletic relations, we have different communities that seek this. This committee is to do this on a bigger scale. Some people have talked about how athletes are separated from floor culture, part of this is to help integrate athletes.

Senator Moyes: This is not related to SAAC, part of the reason senate is necessary, is also because the field is helping it from being restricted. It will be open to others besides athletes.

Senator Avent: Another issue is facilities, they are understaffed. I have talked to RAs, work orders are going slowly. The argument having a facilities focused committee would be a good idea, this idea could continue into a lot of other ideas. This question I have is how many will be one this committee, how will that look if senate drops in numbers?

PPT LaQuey: First it would be a smaller sized committees, the membership is open to others, others will have voting powers, we are having a sunset clause, there is a need for the issues to be addressed, if we continue to look into those issues the committee would be disbanded.

VP Murphy: Yes they are understaffed, that is on LeTourneau. Athletics would be part of this could be a project. Students are not allowed to help because that is different.

Senator Avent: One last question, in section E point 3, why is it spring 2022?

Senator Anderson: Since we are nearing the end of the semester, one-year would be the end of spring 2022 semester.

Senator Eaton: To address the work orders: They already have funding to do this. I am not sure if they are going to use it. I know from my experience we have a fund to change our house. We are not allowed to do work on our house, but then facilities do not handle it. It might be difficult to do this on our own.

PPT LaQuey: Part of the purpose of the committee was to make sure people are informed, it is not just some theory. Managing expectations would be a part of the purpose. I motion to call the question and close discussion.

Senator Dittman: I know we normally do a cookout for students, could we put that together or do it separately.
